Reporting Accidents and Cases of Ill-Health

RIDDOR '95 requires the reporting of work-related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences. It applies to all work activities, but not to all incidents.

RIDDOR '95 means the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995, which came into force on 1 April 1996.

Reporting certain accidents and cases of ill health arising out of work activities and business undertakings is a legal requirement.

Do the Regulations affect me?

If you are an employer, self-employed or in control of work premises you will have duties under the Regulations.

When do I need to act?

You need to report:

  • Deaths
  • Major injuries
  • Accidents resulting in 3 days off work
  • Diseases
  • Dangerous occurrences
  • Death of member of the public
  • When a member of the public is taken to hospital

What do I need to do?

Not very much! The reporting procedure has now been simplified and offers a facility to report all cases to a single point, the Incident Contact Centre (ICC), based at Caerphilly.

Business of the Month

Nook Corner is an excellent example of how to use this web site, especially if you don't have a dedicated site. Nook Corner is a combined Gift, Gallery and Coffee Shop located in the centre of Anstey in one of the oldest buildings in the village. But it is much more than just a coffee shop; it also a very well stocked gift shop, offering a large and constantly changing range of gifts to suit most occasions.
