The financial year (2006/7) Charnwood Borough Council expected to spend approximately £12 million on a range of goods and services from third parties. This guide has been created to encourage existing and potential suppliers to tender for our business, where you feel you can offer the best value. We are always interested in suppliers who can offer new and innovative solutions that will maximise the potential of our resources and help us succeed to achieve in delivering high quality, efficient public services

Regional Procurement

  • emda site for Regional Procurement & Contracts

East Midlands Development Agency (emda) has launched (November 2007) a new ‘procurement portal’ for regional firms to tender for contracts – and help get better value for taxpayers’ money.
The new system means suppliers can view emda contract announcements in real time via the agency’s website, and will make it easier for small and medium sized companies to apply.

Selling to the Government

Supply2 Gov
  • Supplying Government

Supplying Government is the new opportunities portal for lower-value contracts - supporting UK businesses (especially SMEs) to tender for government opportunities

  • Public Sector contracts and SMEs (PDF, 37K)

Document from SOCITM about how SMEs can get more involved in public sector contracts.

SMEs are the main employers in the EU but in the context of globalisation have tended to lose out when it comes to government business. However, governments across the EU now recognise the crucial role SMEs can play in stimulating local economies, encouraging socio-economic inclusion and delivering greater innovation and efficiency in the public sector. Via new legislation and opening up the massive public procurement market to SMEs, government can have a strong and positive influence. Moreover, by working more efficiently with smaller businesses, government can help them and itself, by reducing 'red tape' on the one hand and streamlining delivery of services to a large number of its customers on the other.

Nook Corner is an excellent example of how to use this web site, especially if you don't have a dedicated site. Nook Corner is a combined Gift, Gallery and Coffee Shop located in the centre of Anstey in one of the oldest buildings in the village. But it is much more than just a coffee shop; it also a very well stocked gift shop, offering a large and constantly changing range of gifts to suit most occasions.
