Charnwood Borough Council - Charnwood Business

Trading Standards

In light of new legislation, Leicestershire Trading Standards Service are able to offer a much expanded Business Advice and Training Service. We are here to provide practical help. We have a new dedicated telephone line on 0116 265 8000, on which we can offer free advice to business people. Our web pages are on the County Council web site .

As well as giving one-off advice, we offer talks to groups of traders on both civil & criminal trading law, covering particular business sectors and particular aspects of law. A few examples of subjects:-

• Many businesses have a problem drawing up standard, enforcable and legal contract terms & conditions;
• With the enormous increase in web based business, the Distance Selling Regs etc can be a minefield for someone coming new to this method of retailing;
• The 'new' remedies under the Sale of Goods Act still cause confusion to many businesses;
• How many used car dealers know how they stand when trying to disclaim the mileage of a car?

The web site carries advice and information for Businesses on:

  • Fair Trading
  • Product Safety
  • Food monitoring
  • Road Traffic
  • Petroleum & Explosives
  • Animal Health & Welfare
  • Metrology (weights & measures)
  • Information & Advice

The Trading Standards Service also provides free advice on starting an e-business.

So, whether you are a new business or you have been established for years, give us a call on 0116 265 8000 to see what we can do for you.

Consumers needing advice or wanting to report a problem should NOT contact the County Council but should ring Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06. Consumer Direct also provides advice on their web site.

Business of the Month

Nook Corner is an excellent example of how to use this web site, especially if you don't have a dedicated site. Nook Corner is a combined Gift, Gallery and Coffee Shop located in the centre of Anstey in one of the oldest buildings in the village. But it is much more than just a coffee shop; it also a very well stocked gift shop, offering a large and constantly changing range of gifts to suit most occasions.
