Redundancy

Redundancy can be a sudden and traumatic event but help is available. The following booklet is excellent and was produced by Invest Leicestershire. It also gives lots of general advice on job seeking, writing CVs, interviews, what to do if you cannot find a job and how to cope with the pressures, etc.

It is useful to both those being made redundant and those employers who are being forced to make redundancies.

Specialist Skills & Expertise

Charnwood is especially well placed to take advantage of the specialist skill and expertise in our universities. Not only is there Loughborough University but there are five other universities within half an hour's travel time. Between them they offer of wide spectrum of specialised knowledge that is available to local companies. This can be directly through consultancy but also through schemes that bring graduates into your workplace but still have input from the university. This can be a very cost effective way to bring in new technology and methods.

  • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) provide government funding to stimulate innovation through collaborative projects between businesses and universities. A KTP will enable you to work on a specific project, bringing new knowledge and expertise into your business.

Each partnership employs one or more recently qualified people to work in a company on a project of strategic importance to the business. In this way the academic partner is also provided with relevant and improved understanding of business requirements and operations.

KTP is funded by 11 Government organisations led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Each Partnership is part funded by Government with the balance of the costs coming from the company partner.

    KTP aims to:

Facilitate the transfer of knowledge through projects undertaken by high calibre, recently qualified people under joint supervision from a company and an academic institution
Provide company-based training for recently qualified people to enhance their business and specialist skills
Stimulate and enhance business-relevant training and research undertaken by the academic institutions
Increase the interaction between businesses and academic institutions, and awareness of the contribution academia can make to business development and growth

There are currently 882 Partnerships across the UK.

Business of the Month

Nook Corner is an excellent example of how to use this web site, especially if you don't have a dedicated site. Nook Corner is a combined Gift, Gallery and Coffee Shop located in the centre of Anstey in one of the oldest buildings in the village. But it is much more than just a coffee shop; it also a very well stocked gift shop, offering a large and constantly changing range of gifts to suit most occasions.
