Markets and Town Centre

Loughborough Town Centre Partnership

Loughborough is the largest town in Leicestershire outside the city of Leicester. The Borough Council works with the Loughborough BID towards maintaining the town centre as a vibrant and prosperous retail and social venue.

The Loughborough Business Improvement District (BID) was set up in November 2011, and the company was officially registered in March 2012 and will run until March 2017. The BID also secured Portas Pilot status in 2012 making Loughborough one of the 27 National Portas Pilot Towns.

Comprising almost 600 town centre businesses with a Board which is made up from representatives across these businesses and partner organisations, the aim of the BID is to improve the trading environment for its member businesses.

The BID owns Love Loughborough which is the public facing brand used for marketing and promotion of the town. The Love Loughborough website has been put together by Loughborough’s Business Improvement District (BID) to showcase the best of what Loughborough Town Centre has to offer and it contains a directory of shops in the town centre and a programme of town centre events.

The Markets

The markets have been part of the Loughborough scene for 900 years. They are operated and administered by the Council's Markets & Fairs Service. Prospective traders wishing to attend any of the Council’s markets should call or e-mail the markets office for information and updates on stall availability. Budding new market traders may get useful advice on the law, tax and insurance from the National Market Traders Federation.

The main market days are Thursday and Saturday but there are also a monthly farmers market and a flea market every Friday plus occasional French, German and Italian markets.

Shepshed also has a market every Friday.
